Driving to O'Gorman Junior High School 

From the South - Proceed North on I-29. Exit at 41st Street (Exit 77). Take a right onto 41st Street (heading east).  At the intersection of 41st St./Kiwanis Ave – O’Gorman High School will be on your left. O’Gorman Junior High School is the furthest west building on the O’Gorman Campus.

From the North - Proceed South on I-29. Exit at 41st Street (Exit 77). Take a left onto 41st Street (heading east).  At the intersection of 41st St./Kiwanis Ave – O’Gorman High School will be on your left. O’Gorman Junior High School is the furthest west building on the O’Gorman Campus.

From the West using I-90 - Take the Exit for I-29 South and proceed south. Exit at 41st Street (Exit 77). Take a left onto 41st Street (heading east).  At the intersection of 41st St./Kiwanis Ave – O’Gorman High School will be on your left. . From the East using I-90 & I-229 - At the intersection of I-90/I-229 take I-229 South (Exit 400) and proceed south.  Exit at Western Ave. (Exit 2).  Take a right onto Western Ave. and proceed north towards 41st Street.  At the intersection of 41st Street/Western Ave. take a left and proceed West towards Kiwanis Ave.  At the intersection of 41st St./Kiwanis Ave. you will find O’Gorman High School on your right. O’Gorman Junior High School is the furthest west building on the O’Gorman Campus.

O'Gorman Junior High has the distinction of being named a National Blue Ribbon School--the only stand-alone middle school/junior high in South Dakota history to have achieved this recognition.

O’Gorman Junior High School takes a tremendous amount of pride in being the link between elementary school and high school. The junior high years are a time of great change. Our professional and dedicated staff, along with outstanding parental support, help our students reach their potential in a safe, positive, and faith-filled environment.

We are dedicated to providing a well-rounded education for our students. Along with our core curriculum of social studies, science, mathematics, English-language arts, and theology, students also take exploratory courses such as speech and debate, art, and literature. O’Gorman Junior High School is fortunate to be able to offer four “Credit Before Grade 9″ courses (Algebra I, Spanish I, German I, Latin I) to 8th grade students who qualify. Additionally, students may also qualify to take other high school level courses at O’Gorman High School if they have met all qualifications and prerequisites.

Each year, O’Gorman Junior High School students consistently score higher on standardized tests than public school students in Sioux Falls and the state of South Dakota. We are very proud of the high scores that our students consistently earn.

The opportunities at O’Gorman Junior High are endless. Co-curricular programs are offered to help with the effort to educate the whole child.

In 1998, the seventh Bishop of the Sioux Falls Diocese, Robert J. Carlson, along with the SFCS School Board, established the first centralized Catholic junior high in Sioux Falls. Prior to this time, students at the junior high level held classes at the former Cathedral High School (converted to a Catholic junior high school in 1961) and at St. Mary School. O’Gorman Junior High would now occupy the former minor seminary building to the west of O’Gorman High School. With extensive remodeling, many improvements were made to suit the 400 students who would now be attending O’Gorman Junior High School.  A multipurpose room (gymnasium), locker rooms, and a music room were also added. The first principal to serve at O’Gorman Junior High was Mrs. Colly Broveleit.

In 2019, O'Gorman Junior High School was named as a National Blue Ribbon School, the highest award a school can earn. To date, the school is the only stand-alone middle school/junior high in South Dakota history to have achieved this distinction.
