Academic Services

The Study Center is designed to provide a variety of supports to help all students achieve academic success. The purpose of the Study Center is to assist students with disabilities, medical conditions, or academic learning needs by providing help in different academic areas. An ongoing referral process is used to identify students requiring assistance. The class operates as a structured study hall with academic support, as well as organization and study skills assistance. Study progress is monitored by daily assignment notebook checks and weekly grade trackers. A variety of resources are available to students, such as audio books, course materials, computers, textbooks and Academic Services staff members. 
 

The Academic Services Team utilizes a three-tiered approach to provide support for students in the classroom. If a student does not respond to the teaching practices given in tier one, or the interventions given in tier two, a recommendation is made for the student to be tested to determine whether a formal plan is needed. If a student is diagnosed with a disability or medical condition that impacts learning, the student is eligible for a tier three Accommodation Plan, Personalized Service Plan, or Language Acquisition Plan. A meeting is facilitated by the Academic Services Coordinator with the student, parents, and teachers to develop a plan tailored to the individual needs of the student. Every plan is shared with the corresponding teachers and reviewed annually to monitor effectiveness and make changes if necessary.

Students who need changes to the curriculum are placed in a foundation level class. Modifications are made to alter content and expectations to be appropriate to each individual student. We offer stand-alone core classes with only foundation students in the class so the entire curriculum can be modified. Other classes can be modified individually for students in the general classroom. 
 

The test center is a room attached to the Study Center that provides a place for students to receive testing accommodations. Testing accommodations include alternate setting, extended time, and tests read orally. A student must be on an Accommodation Plan or a Personalized Service Plan in order to test in the test center.
