Students involved in Robotics compete in an organization called FIRST LEGO League (FLL). FLL is a robotics program for middle school aged students, and is designed to get children excited about science and technology, and teach them valuable employment and life skills. Teams consist of up to ten students. Robotics typically begins in October and state competition concludes in January.
8th grade students who are involved in band and choir may also choose to be a member of the OGJH Worship Team, which performs at our weekly school Masses. The Worship Team practices on Wednesday mornings before school. Students interested in being a part of the OGJH Worship Team should visit with their music teacher.
Interested students must first apply and be recommended by their teachers to be a member of Student Council. Students are then selected for this group based on a survey of their peers. Student Council members assist new students and incoming 6th grade students with transition to OGJH, and are involved in service projects throughout the year. They meet throughout the year, usually before school.
Book Club begins in the fall and runs throughout most of the school year. The group typically meets before school. Book Club is an opportunity to share the love of books and reading. Members read different genres, talk to fellow members about characters, plots, and many other aspects of a particular book. Members will have opportunities to make posters, write reviews, and/or make commercials about the books they are reading.
Students for Life begins in the fall and runs throughout most of the school year. The group meets before school once per month. This group is dedicated to preserving the dignity of human life from birth to natural death. Students have the opportunity to hear speakers throughout the year on various positive life topics ranging from hospice to adoption to the safe use of technology.
