Clubs

Lego Club begins in the fall and meets once every other week. Lego Club is a fun way for students to use their creativity and imagination while working with peers. Students  will learn about the history of legos, have lego contests, and make new friends. 

8th grade students who are involved in band and choir may also choose to be a member of the OGJH Worship Team, which performs at our weekly school Masses. The Worship Team practices on Wednesday mornings before school. Students interested in being a part of the OGJH Worship Team should visit with their music teacher.

Interested students must first apply and be recommended by their teachers to be a member of Student Council. Students are then selected for this group based on a survey of their peers. Student Council members assist new students and incoming 6^th grade students with transition to OGJH, and are involved in service projects throughout the year. They meet throughout the year, usually before school.

Quiz Bowl begins mid-year and continues throughout the school year. Quiz Bowl teams have limited practice and compete in competitions against other area middle school students.

Drama Club begins in November and runs through April.  Activities include, but are not limited to improv games, guest speakers, field trips, and a variety show.

Art Club typically begins in the winter of the year and continues throughout spring. Aspiring artists can continue their love of art through collaborative projects.

Gaming Club begins in the fall of the year and meets every few weeks throughout the year. The Gaming Club focuses on board games in which students must strategize to beat their opponents.

Book Club begins in the fall and runs throughout most of the school year. The group typically meets before school. Book Club is an opportunity to share the love of books and reading. Members read different genres, talk to fellow members about characters, plots, and many other aspects of a particular book. Members will have opportunities to make posters, write reviews, and/or make commercials about the books they are reading.

The Christian Service Club begins in the fall and meets once per month. The Christian Service Club connects students with service opportunities in order to foster a lifestyle of service and a heart of compassion and love.

Science Club is the opportunity for students to compete in the Eastern South Dakota Science Fair at SDSU.  Students will meet once a month from November through March and will compete in the science fair at the end of March. Some students may be chosen by the science fair committee to enter into the Middle school National Science Fair, where students can win larger prizes and may also be selected to travel to Washington DC to experience a week of science with like minded peers from across the country. Each monthly meeting, students will report their progress and collaborate with other science club members to progress their project.  In addition to preparing for the science fair, the science club will also have various science experiments and activities at each meeting.
